I am Mandie Mooshie, a smooshie sweetheart that remembers expressing interest in cosplay. People told me that black women don’t cosplay. I started to see how black women are not allowed to be soft, bubbly, positive, snuggly, fun, bouncy, inviting, sweethearts, and so much more. I suppressed my tastes for Kpop, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Anime, Manga, HUGS, among other things because those are things black girls don’t do. I became depressed. Now, in my late 20s, I am embracing all of my smooshie me and hoping to encourage other black sweethearts to be true to themselves.
