Chapter 4: Part 2

Once again, Victor stands at the front of his father’s mercy, and King Maximus glares at his son as usual, disappointed.

“The pack still lives. Thrives even. A kink would know to kill them all to avoid retaliation,” King Maximus shouts, “What kind of king are you? Are you even a man? If you had a family, would you be able to protect them?”

Victor keeps his eyes to the ground not daring to look up to challenge his father. He doesn’t even dare to respond. If Victor speaks, his father will assume that Victor has no respect for his parents or the crown.

King Maximus will become upset then enraged while Victor will be labeled as lazy, smart mouthed, and lacking a brain. It’s better for Victor to remain quiet, the ordeal will end quickly.

However, remaining silent will leave his father with the impression that Victor is stupid, a woman, weak, and therefore not fit to be king. Being silent will also not end in Victor being beaten. The king turns to men closer to his age.

“Go to the mines. Slaughter the rest of the beasts. Leave none alive.” The king says. Several men leave the throne room taking in the orders.

Emilia dashes through the forest as she fails to blink keeping her eyes tightly locked on the kingdom as if the kingdom will disappear. With one leap, she jumps up to the highest part of a tree, then to a higher one, then a higher one.

Once high enough, Emilia jumps from the tallest tree to the other side of the kingdom’s wall. Moonlight glistens on her fur as she flies. Her paws land heavily on the stone road.

“Emilia?” A familiar voice calls. Emilia searches for the owner of the voice. As she suspects, Emilia finds Chloe beside a lamppost holding a basket of berries wrapped in many scarves, “So you did change.”

“I’m sorry,” Emilia growls as if humans can understand beasts. She pounces on Chloe scratching her. Emilia bites Chloe’s shoulder as gently as possible.

“It’s okay. I forgive you,” Chloe spits up blood with her words. Emilia dashes towards the palace telling herself that she had to bite Chloe. She had to turn Chloe. It was either bite or kill Chloe, and now, Chloe can’t run to warn Victor.

There is a possibility that Chloe won’t turn into a beast. Chloe did say that it was okay; she also said that she forgives Emilia. Chloe’s fine with changing. She said so. She understood Emilia. Emilia quickly reminds herself to focus. She has to turn the prince.
