Emilia dashes deeper into the forest, putting as much distance between her, the mines, and the kingdom as she can. She pushes herself faster and faster as Teddy holds on tight. Trees become increasingly packed together with a small stream running through them.
Emilia climbs up rocks and boulders without stopping. She climbs to the peak of the mountains. One the other side, the moon glistens on green land without any human claim. Trees, valleys, and a river splitting like a six edge fork all rest on the other side of the mountain. It’s so beautiful and perfect. The most beautiful sight Emilia has ever seen.
Behind her is the kingdom, the mountains hidden by trees, and beast with blue eyes bounding towards Emilia. Her heart skips beats, but she dashes towards the free land. Will she ever stop running?
Emilia slips and tumbles down the other side of the mountain, but she ignores the pain. Pain is better than death.
At the bottom of the mountain, and Emilia makes her way to the fork in the river. She can hide amongst the rocks. Not only does the river become thicker, the trees do as well hiding Emilia.
At the fork, Emilia follows one leg of the river; she couldn’t stop if she wanted to. Besides, moon light glistens off every stream breaking away from the river, excluding the one directly at the center, the one she follows. Victor will not be able to see her
As Emilia runs leaving the other streams far from view, she finds a tree with a ladder carved into the wood. Her feet hurt and she’s unsure if she can carry on much longer. Perhaps hiding in a tree will do her good.
Plus, the smell of the river is strong here. The river will cover Emilia’s scent. Emilia climbs up the tree. The branches are thick with leaves and branches hiding the tree house with an octagon opening in the floor.
Inside, cards with beautiful pictures rest on red velvet fabric on the table. Cauldrons are neatly stacked on the shelves as books are organized on a couple of bookshelves.
Jars sparkle with glowing dust of all colors. Different types of tongues sleep in in jars. Frogs feet fill one jar as herbs dry hanging from the ceiling.
A carpet with an abandoned blanket holds an open book with gemstones on the cover. A book mark with a red tassel holds the reader's last place.
Teddy wanders around as Emilia rests on the floor then uses her nose to open the book. She flips the pages until she comes to the bookmark.
